We at Haute Living judge a place by its public bathrooms. Self-flushing toilets, hand towels instead of paper and automatic soap dispensers all separate the ordinary from luxury. Now we have a shot at picking out America’s Best Restroom in an online contest from Cintas Corp. Ten public restrooms vie for a shot at the honor.

We believe the whole list could be made up of restrooms in Las Vegas. We love the swanky Halston meets Cher bathrooms in Gold Lounge at Aria. We’d rather spend time in the stalls with floor to ceiling windows at Mix Lounge at Mandalay Bay. The boudoir feel of Vanity’s bathroom at the Hard Rock Hotel complete with makeup and hair artists makes us swoon. Each makes powdering your nose just a little more elegant.

And perhaps because we’re of the fairer sex we haven’t seen the restroom nominated in Las Vegas. The nomination for Sin City, which believe it or not has never won, comes from a gentleman’s lounge at Main Street Station where you can find a graffiti-covered segment of the oppressive Berlin Wall that once separated East and West Berlin. The wall now serves an appropriate function in the gentlemen’s restroom, where it holds the urinals in place. You can find it on the main casino floor.

That should beat out the bathroom in a 13th century Tuscan castle and winery in Northern California or the silhouettes of birds in mid-flight. The bathrooms at the University of Notre Dame won in the inaugural year. A bit of nostalgia should push Vegas to the top of the pile.
