As the summer sun shone upon the harvested vineyards, oenophiles enjoyed the bounty from the land at the Silver Oak Cellars, Oakville Estate, Summer Release Day Party. Nestled among the manicured vines, pristine French oak barrels and stainless steel vats, a party celebrating the Alexander Valley 2007 cabernet sauvignon release carried on from 10AM until early evening on Saturday, August 6th. Silver Oak is a vineyard known of its lush, velvety cabernets, iconic of Napa Valley. Founded in 1972 by Raymond Duncan and Justin Meyer, Silver Oak has two separate facilities: one in Geyserville, Alexander Valley in Sonoma County and the other in Oakville, Napa Valley.
Upon entry into the event, you were immediately and hospitably greeted and shown to your souvenir tasting glass which was filled with a refreshing, sister cellar, Twomey Sauvignon Blanc. The Vinoson Latin Band set the stage and filled the background with festive music. The air was perfumed with the scent of roasting 00 flour as there was a gourmet wood-oven pizza competition. 6 different Napa Valley chefs, Andrea Mugnaini , Bistro Don Giovanni, Ca’Momi Enoteca , Cindy Pawlcyn’s Catering, Kinckerbockers’ Catering and Silver Oak’s very own, Winery Chef Dominic Orsini competed to have the best pizza. Party-goers would vote by putting in a Silver Oak cork into their favorite stands voting vessel. At around midday, David Baron, the winemaker for Silver Oak, arrived to sign bottles of wine.
But the focal point of everything was the 2007 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting area was towards the back of the estate and hidden in the shade. As one stepped out with a filled tasting glass into the sun, it glistened like a garnet with a purple hue. Then the aroma drew in the drinker with an inviting nose of ripe black plum, blackberry, and just a hint of soy sauce. The mouth feel was rich and full, reminiscent of the flavors of a berry cobbler. And as one placed the glass down, the long fruity finish and structured tannins left one asking for more.
The Easter Egg (surprise) of the day was the tasting of the 2006 Twomey Merlot held inside the tasting room. While many found this tasting area while waiting for their on-site memorabilia photographs to develop, the 2006 was robust and complex, keeping guests lining up for more.
From the picturesque scene of the row of flaming red Ferraris lined up in the parking lot to the scampering children afoot, this fantastic event brought everyone together. Luckily for those who were unable to attend the event or would like some delivered to their doorstep, Silver Oak has an online shop where one can purchase the 2007 Alexander Valley Cabernet Savignon alongside all the vineyard’s offerings.
