Haute 100 Update: Mayor Bloomberg to be Honorary Maestro for NY City Center Re-Opening

In celebration of the re-opening of the historic New York City Center this October, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has agreed to pick up the baton as an honorary maestro for the Encores! Orchestra, as Fiorello LaGuardia once had.

The iconic Midtown venue will be re-opening its doors after having gone through a major renovation to include a more modern marquee, seating and sightlines, stage capabilities, décor, and amenities. Along with this modernization will be a newly-installed video wall to incorporate a visual art element in partnership with the New Museum, which will be exclusively curating three unique video installations for the upcoming 2011-2012 season.

Originally built in 1923 as a meeting place for the Shriners, the City Center will re-open with a gala Encores! show directed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. Although the music has not yet been confirmed for the mayor’s debut, it has been established that Bloomberg will step up to the podium in a whole new way as he raises the baton and leads the orchestra in a celebration of the re-opening of the historic New York City venue.
