Haute 100 Update: Leo DiCaprio Drives Iconic 1929 Duesenberg J for his ‘The Great Gatsby’ Role [PHOTOS]

Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted with co-star Tobey Maguire in Australia as they start work on the upcoming film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. After finally getting his hands on the Fisker Karma luxury hybrid – and being the first in line to get it – it looks like Leo will be trading his new ride for a dapper 1929 Duesenberg J for the film.

Production for the highly anticipated new film doesn’t officially begin until September 5, but the two Gatsby stars have been spotted cruising around Sydney’s Centennial Park in the iconic $3 million antique stunner.

According to Motor Authority, the Duesenberg J was the “Bugatti Veyron if its day,” and cost as much as $19,000 when it was produced. It houses an inline eight-cylinder engine with over 265 horsepower – giving the roadster an impressive top speed of nearly 120 mph.

The auto is one of two Duesenbergs that are on loan from an unnamed US museum for the filming of the movie, although the novel is set in 1922 – seven years before the Duesenberg was even built, but let’s just chalk that up to artistic license.
