Former Mayor Oscar Goodman Plans to Open a Steakhouse Inside the Dome of the Plaza

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will open Oscar’s, a uniquely Las Vegas steakhouse, inside the iconic dome of the Plaza overlooking Fremont Street and the heart of his beloved downtown Las Vegas. The fine dining restaurant, which plans to open later this fall, will serve dinner nightly and a Sunday brunch.

“I can’t wait to open Oscar’s — my own steakhouse — that will have the charm and glamour of the Las Vegas that I love,” said Goodman. “Many people may remember that I once called for the Plaza to be torn down, but the much-needed investment by its committed owners has transformed it into the coolest place in Vegas.”

Goodman plans to incorporate memorabilia from his 12-year tenure as mayor and classic photographs of Las Vegas over the years. Next to the steakhouse, a new Italian restaurant and speakeasy that pays homage to Goodman’s years as an advisor and private attorney representing high-profile clients that played a role in making Vegas what it is today will be built. A new bar and lounge that will serve a variety of cocktails, including martinis, the former mayor’s signature drink, will serve customers of both restaurants.

“We wanted to identify a unique restaurant concept to open in the dome,” said Tamares Real Estate Chairman Poju Zabludowicz, whose company owns the Plaza and other downtown properties. “Former Mayor Goodman epitomizes the spirit and nostalgic tradition of vintage Las Vegas, and Oscar’s is the perfect brand for the Plaza’s iconic dome.”

The dome previously housed Firefly, and before that, Center Stage, which had a role in “Casino” with Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone.
