Regina Arriola’s Travel Diary: Arrivederci Milano
by HauteLiving
Traveling from London to Milan is more than a journey from one country to the next. It is a change of pace, and a change of style. Milan is a city where time passes rather slowly, fashion is relaxed and refined, and the people truly enjoy life and the company of those around them.
Most of my days were spent sitting in cafes on one of Milan’s winding roads, watching people pass me by. I found it so interesting the difference between men and women in terms of fashion. The female approach to style was understated, while men were ornate and elegant. Men in Milan wear bright trousers, pocket squares, and colorful dress shoes. Women stick to basics with white linen pants and cotton dresses, usually in earth tones.
When I wasn’t living life alla Italiano, I visited some of the many landmarks. These include Il Teatro Alla Moda, the Villa Necchi, and the Triennale design museum. The spirit of the Triennale museum is one that celebrates art as an evolving craft. For one month every year, the Triennale closes its doors for renovations in order to update their museum, giving their audience something new every time they visit. With each exhibition, the Triennale poses to answer the question, “What is Italian design?” Through the unveiling of unpublished works of Italian designers, this museum gives notoriety to otherwise unrecognizable names.
One of the greatest pleasures in Italy, besides these extraordinary venues, is the cuisine. I typically do not eat Italian food in Miami, the beach life back at home leaves little room for pasta and risotto. But, as they say, “When in Rome!” or in my case, “Milan!” The most delicious meal I enjoyed was at a small authentic restauraunt on Corso Como called Alla Cucina delle Langhe. The cotoletta and tiramisu were divine!
As quickly as Milan came it went, and by the time I started getting accustomed to Italian life, it was time to go. Having just arrived in Paris, I plan to spend my first night walking the entire city, to remind myself why I fell in love with it in the first place. Au revoir!

Paris is a magical city, where anything seems possible. There is a feeling in Paris that is very different from that in London or Milan. The city is rich in history, and preserves a sense of classic elegance.
When in search of luxury, there is no better place to find it than at the Plaza Athenee in Paris. This historic hotel opened in 1913 and is located on Avenue Montaigne, the ultimate fashion district in Paris.
The Quadrilatero in Milan is a fashion maze that includes high fashion designer shops and decadent caffes. It is also where Il Museo Alla Moda is located, on the street of Sant’Andrea, and is one of Milan’s greatest treasures.
Milan is the kind of city where buildings crowd the narrow streets, markets are on every corner, and a sense of old world authenticity fills the air. Amongst all of this, in the heart of the city, is a historical home-turned-museum called the Villa Necchi. With a tennis court, swimming pool, and gar...
The final days of my fashion escapade end in the French Riviera. I made my way through Nice, St. Paul De Vence, Cap d'Antibes, Cannes, Monte Carlo, and finally St. Tropez. The latter part of my trip was spent enjoying the Mediterranean sea, and soaking in as much sun and relaxation as possible.
Miami is a city with a reputation primarily based on it's sexy beaches and over the top night life. Likewise, St. Tropez has a reputation of it's own. Before arriving in St. Tropez, I had only heard about how extravagant the town was, but after spending four days there, I came to realize that "extra...
Seven days in London is not nearly enough. London is a cutting edge city that delivers originality and has an astonishing number of places to satisfy the artistic eye.
Kate Moss has been one of the world's top models for over 20 years, and is responsible for introducing an unconventional image of a model into the fashion industry. This image, although credited for the rise of several debates about "size zero fashion," has become a movement in today's world.
Today, the word "drape" is practically synonymous with the design aesthetic of Lanvin's designer, Alber Elbaz. However, long before Elbaz there was Alix Gres, the expert in draping who was more commonly known as Madame Gres.
As my journey came to a close, I was enthralled by the dreamy cities of Monte Carlo and St. Tropez. Having already touched upon the sensational style in this part of town, my final travel post will cover the prodigious Hermitage Hotel and Hotel Paris Casino in Monte Carlo, as well as the swank Hotel...
