Regina Arriola’s Travel Diary: London-based Designer Michelle Lowe Holder And Her One Of A Kind Contribution To Fashion
by HauteLiving

If you are a fashion follower and you do not know who Michelle Lowe Holder is, then read closely. Michelle Lowe Holder is a Canadian-born fashion designer in London, whose sustainable approach to fashion has reinvented her brand. I had the opportunity to meet Michelle and get some insight into the mind of a designer including the many types of designers there actually are. Some designers are inspired to create collections based on the places they visit, such as Galliano who is recognized for his use of travel as inspiration in his collections. Other designers choose art as their medium, like Yves Saint Laurent, who was known for his extraordinary collection, which was auctioned at Christie’s in Paris. Michelle Lowe Holder identifies herself as a designer who designs through textiles, allowing them to speak to her and eventually creating a collection in an organic manner.

Michelle Lowe Holder first began designing women’s pret-a-porter, and today focuses on her collection of ethical accessories. Her designs have graced the costumes of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex And The City, and have been recognized all over the world for their originality. She is a literal designer, who has created collections named Taboo, My Best Dress, and Sweet Summer, in addition to a collection that she also created for Top Shop. In London, you can find her amazing pieces at stores like Luna and Curious and Dark Room. For fashion-crazed ladies in the states such as myself, her collections are also available online at notjustalabel.com.

Miami is a city with a reputation primarily based on it's sexy beaches and over the top night life. Likewise, St. Tropez has a reputation of it's own. Paris is a magical city, where anything seems possible. There is a feeling in Paris that is very different from that in London or Milan. The city is rich in history, and preserves a sense of classic elegance.

The final days of my fashion escapade end in the French Riviera. I made my way through Nice, St. Paul De Vence, Cap d'Antibes, Cannes, Monte Carlo, and finally St. Tropez. The latter part of my trip was spent enjoying the Mediterranean sea, and soaking in as much sun and relaxation as possible.

Milan is the kind of city where buildings crowd the narrow streets, markets are on every corner, and a sense of old world authenticity fills the air. Amongst all of this, in the heart of the city, is a historical home-turned-museum called the Villa Necchi. With a tennis court, swimming pool, and gar...
