Fred Segal and The Webster are two of the first places that come to mind when I think of the best concept stores. After a visit to 10 Corso Como in Milan, I have new addition to my list. With a beautiful garden, café, design gallery, bookshop, retail store, and boutique hotel, at 10 Corso Como there is something for everyone. This was exactly the dream of its creator, Carla Sozzani, who opened the doors to the impressive location in 1990. Carla Sozzani is an Italian icon whose expertise in all things fashion and art have aided her in creating a location that is authentic and perfectly assorted. Everything within the store, from the clothing to the book selection, includes the best in each category. Carla Sozzani’s fine taste and impeccable eye helped realize her vision of creating a one-stop spot for all things luxury.
After overseeing more than 200 exhibitions like those of Helmut Newton and David LaChapelle, Carla Sozzani continued on to edit Yohji Yamamoto’s book “Talking To Myself,” as well as collaborating with Azzedine Alaia. Both of these coveted designers also happen to be close friends of Sozzani.
Filling the beautiful steel racks of the women’s retail section at 10 Corso Como are the best pieces from designers like Comme des Garcons, Givenchy, and Balenciaga. Likewise, the menswear selection includes an impressive array of designers. The 10 Corso Como customer is specific, and Carla Sozzani has a very clear vision of who her client is. They are fashion-forward and modern, while remaining understated and sophisticated. In addition to the lux retail therapy, 10 Corso Como is also home to a contemporary art gallery, Galleria Carla Sozzani. Here, Sozzani dedicates the space to a fantastic collection of photography, design and architecture.
