Proenza Schouler was founded in 2002 by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez while attending Parsons. Four years ago, they received an investment from Perima, a private-equity firm (also principal owner of Valentino), giving Perima 45 percent ownership in the fashion label. Hernandez, and McCollough own the rest along with Proenza’s chief executive officer, Shirley Cook.
It is said that a European private-equity firm will be selling it’s shares in Proenza Schouler to New York investors, Andrew Rosen, the executive behind Theory and Helmut Lang and John Howard, the chief executive of Irving Place Capital. Some of Howard’s other investments include shoemaker Stuart Weitzman and a retail chain in Ohio. Years ago, he also was an investor in the fashion labels Aéropostale and Seven for All Mankind.
Proenza has a large following in the luxury fashion world and most recently, an “it” bag, the PS1 which has been selling off the shelves for a few years. With the fashion and financial force behind Rosen and Howard, if the deal goes through, the future of Proenza Schouler has endless expansion possibilities.

“Take our new food truck to the Baldwin Park health department for the final inspection. It’s a schlep but we’re pretty used to it by now and can’t wait for the truck to be stationed at its permanent location at the Malibu Lumber Yard. I might have a lot on my plate but I feel pretty grateful for all the exciting things that are happening right now.”

In this issue, the woman behind Vivre and its various related businesses shares a typical day’s events with us. Three things dominate the ultra-chic entrepreneur’s busy schedule: her kids, her Blackberry, and plenty of espresso.
6:30AM
“Three espressos, really. Read the New York Times. Another espresso. A liter and a half of water with green tea. My Blackberry. Then, A second, semi-proper breakfast with my kids. Kisses, then everyone races to get out the door. I often try to squeeze in yoga once they’re gone.”

Quick! Everyone! Send me your credit card #’s. I want to experiment with these suede and leather stilts!

Juliana Cho is a genius when it comes to designing eco-conscious, sleek, futuristic cars. The people at Porsche were smart (and very lucky) when they hired Ms. Cho as an intern. The Masters student who studies at the Royal College of Art has come up with a design for a new Porsche, the Porsche 929. Special features of this car include an electrically powered engine, suicide doors and a unique parking mechanism. Because of the car’s prestige and rarity, it will be exclusive to a members only group in which members will share a fleet of cars. An individual charging outpost will be available to 929 drivers only. The car is in the beginning stages of design, but hopefully Cho’s innovative idea makes it to production!
