Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in contract to buy a $20 million, 22,000-square-foot, eleven-bedroom Georgian mansion, dubbed Ballyshear when it was built in 1910 for Charles Blair Macdonald, the man who built the first 18-hole course in the nation. The ivy-coated, historic manor resides on 35 acres of the Long Island coast, overlooks the Peconic Bay and neighbors the National Golf Links of America, perennially listed as one of the nation’s top courses. Yearly real-estate taxes are $42,110, according to the property listing.

The estate features riding stables, a pool and a tennis court, and astoundingly, gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmstead—none other than the designer of New York City’s Central Park. Bloomberg was likely attracted to the property’s extreme privacy, there is a half-mile, tree-lined driveway leading up to the main house. The mayor also owns an Upper East Side townhouse, mansion in Bermuda and a home in Vail, Colorado.
