“Mauzan” in Arabic means “rare pearl.” It is the name Emirati designer Rafia Helal bin Drai chose for her boutique housing her creations of elegant abayas. Graceful silhouettes, refined lines and colors using fabric sourced from France and Italy give form to her creations and have established her brand as a truly rare pearl of the desert.

Mauzan was born in 1990 with the opening of her first boutique in her home town of Al Ain. She intends for her designs to celebrate the Abaya and Sheila as powerful expressions of a woman’s individuality. The contemporary custom-made designs display a graceful femininity and comfort bestowing an air of elegance and empowerment on the wearer.

Rafia’s pioneering vision has led her to develop her own line of casual abayas, prêt-a-porter and Haute Couture abayas as well as her own line of perfumes. Mauzan Exclusive creates haute couture and limited edition pieces while Miss Mauzan was developed as a casual line for our younger clientele.

Mauzan has 5 retail shops: one in Abu Dhabi, two in Al Ain and two in Dubai with another major opening on the way which is a part of the five-year expansion plan of the company.

A creative visionary, Rafia is always seeking for new inspirations and ideas for her creations. She was recently named Fashion Designer of the Tear at the 2011 L’Officiel Middle East Arab Woman of the Year Awards in Abu Dhabi.
