Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Women’s Campaign
by Mollie Lichy

Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 women’s campaign, photographed by Steven Meisel, channels 1940s bourgeoisie.  Stunning young models relax in the back seat of vintage cars lined in sleek black leather.  Stylist Karl Templer accessorized the women with leather gloves, bellhop hats, head bands and crocodile purses.

In addition they wore animal skin jackets with oversized covered black patent leather buttons.  The mix of different furs and animal skins in rich reds, purples, grays and greens turn the vintage look into a modern French take on the young haute models. Like true little rich girls, they tote tiny black and white puppies to match the personality of the line.  Headbands made of crystallized masks echo the feel of the line, as a masquerade ball should be in the near future.

Although the colors are reminiscent of Alfonso Cuarón’s 1994 adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, the girls are ready to paint the town in ultra-chic style.  Fellow fashion designer Marc Jacobs makes a great point when he asks, “Who wouldn’t want to be this gorgeous young woman in the back seat of this beautiful car?”

Models who took part in the shoot include Zuzanna Bijoch, Daphne Groeneveld, Gertrud Hegelund, Nyasha Matonhodze, Anaïs Pouliot and Fei Fei Sun. Simplistic makeup by Pat McGrath and sleek hair by Guido Palau were perfect for the unexpected fearlessness the models in the shoot captured.  The campaign will hit the stands in August 2011.
