Haute Alert: New West Hollywood Library Opening This Fall

The building of the new West Hollywood Library and community center, part of The West Hollywood Park Master Plan in West Hollywood, broke ground in early 2009. Two years later, Phase 1 of the complex is almost complete (ahead of time) and set to debut this Fall with the Community Dedication and Grand Opening set for Saturday, October 1. The opening of the complex comes at the perfect time coordinating with the 25th Anniversary of the West Hollywood community.

The 43,000 square foot complex, designed by MDA Johnson Favaro, will house the library, a sidewalk cafe, tennis courts, parking garages, and a public meeting space called The City Council Chambers. The complex aims to be the city’s most sustainable building and will become LEED certified upon completion.

According to Weho.org, “The center will serve as the centerpiece of the West Hollywood community. It is designed to showcase the City’s rich intellectual, literary and cultural diversity and provide a landmark facility for the community’s passionate commitment to lifelong learning.”

The new library will continue to be operated by the County of Los Angeles Library and will include the following areas of interest: LGBT area, HIV/AID Collection, Wells Fargo Career Development Center, Teen Area, Art and Design Collection, Friends of the Library Bookstore, West Hollywood Room and Archive. Book wise, the space is massive estimated to hold more than 150,000 volumes. The center sits on prime real estate directly across from the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood Park.
