Haute Eats: Halekulani in Waikiki unveils new Japanese desserts

It’s not everyday you can feast on the dessert creations of a master pastry chef from Japan.

But from Aug. 8 through 31, you can sample the sweet masterwork of Chef Kanjiro Mochizuki, the pastry master from the iconic and legendary Imperial Hotel Tokyo, at the the posh Halekulani in Waikiki.

The award-winning Mochizuki, in conjunction with Halekulani’s pastry chef Mark Freischmidt, will present “The Art of the Dessert,” with special dessert menus at the hotel in August, including an exclusive pastry demonstration and afternoon tea — part of the Halekulani Living luxury and lifestyle series — with champagne featuring some of the Japanese hotel’s most popular sweets (like the roll cake shown above).

Mochizuki’s creations will be featured only at the hotel’s Veranda Tea Room. Tea is served daily, every afternoon.

The Halekulani Living pastry demonstration and afternoon tea with Mochizuki will take place at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the hotel’s Garden Terrace. Cost is $49 and reservations are required.

On Sunday, Aug. 7 the popular brunch at Orchids will serve these specially made desserts for this day only. Cost is $57 and reservations are required.

For more information about “The Art of the Dessert” or to make reservations, call (808) 923-2311 or visit www.halekulani.com.
