Save the Date: Wynwood Art District Goes 3-D!
by Cristina Alvarez

Next week, ATELIER 1022 Studio and Fine Art Gallery will team up with TASCHEN MIAMI, home to Benedickt Taschen’s innovative art books, to showcase a one-of-a-kind 3-D exhibit composed of books and photography. “3-D ArtVergnügen!” will combine a variety of Atelier 1022’s 3-D Stereocards, contemporary 3-D prints, and Taschen’s Big Body Parts book series.

Atelier 1022’s team of photographers has attempted to bring Stereocards, which were produced in large quantities throughout the 19th century, back to life. The team has traveled around the world, from London to Mexico City to Key West, capturing hundreds of photographs epitomizing the 21st century. The exhibit will include both vintage Stereocards and Atelier’s modern 3-D photographs.

Ellie Perla, a photographer for the collection, voiced her concern about keeping photographs physical and genuine for posterity. “We hope that 3-D books and 3-D STEREOCARDS will entice people to preserve tangible and authentic images of today for future generations, images that will not disappear in a computer crash or become obsolete as a new operating system is installed,” Perla said.
“3-D ArtVergnügen!” will take place on June 11 from 6 to 11 p.m. during Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Gallery Walk and the exhibit will remain on display at Atelier 1022 until July 5, 2011.
Atelier 1022 Gallery is located at 2732 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami.
