After a Tuesday evening showing to 40 elite brokers, television industry mogul John W. Kluge’s exquisite Palm Beach estate is officially on the market for $59 million. In 1995, the billionaire Metromedia founder purchased and combined five separate properties to create this iconic residence.
Whether you prefer beachfront views or a more lush, green oasis, the 4.3-acre compound satisfies both desires, complete with a 6,000-square-foot ocean-front house as well as a 12,000-square-foot garden home, which served as Kluge’s main residence. The property includes an additional 3 auxiliary houses currently occupied by members of the staff. With over 21,00–square-feet of living space in total, there will never be any shortage of room for guests after throwing the lavish parties that this property was surely meant for.
Upon entering the main house, you are welcomed by a breathtaking domed ceiling. In every room you will discover classic French windows and doors overlooking the seemingly endless fields of green. The grandeur of the residence is unquestionable, comprised of a full casino and piano lounge. The perfectly groomed gardens are adorned with ornate fountains that only add to the elegance of the early 20th century construction. To top it all off, the expansive property and rows of palm trees give the estate a resort-like feel.

Over the years, design houses have become a quintessential way to make the world of interior design and décor one of experiential enjoyment. What better way to appreciate the talents of designers and decorators than to see their work first hand, after all? To that end, it’s no surprise that Artefacto owner, Paulo Bacchi has chosen to partner with 11 of the greatest local design talents to create a wonderland of design that will exist as Artefacto Design House ’11.
New to Miami, the show house promises to feature the work of 11 top international designers from 9 Miami-based design studios in the form of uniquely curated vignettes. From mock living rooms and bedrooms, to designs specific to outdoor living, the works of art will be on show in the window displays of Artefacto’s Village of Merrick Park showroom.
Some of the participants will include such big-name designers as Briggs Solomon whose work is coveted by the most discerning clients around the globe. Solomon is most recently noted for his local projects for some of the most notable actors and athletes.
In true Artefacto form, the vignettes will speak to the multicultural influences making waves in the world of design today—an appropriate platform in a city where international influences reign supreme. And this visual treat acts as a nod to the community in other ways as well, primarily through its commitment to one of Miami’s most cherished fundraisers, Zo’s Summer Groove, an event benefitting Alonzo Mourning Charities’ Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine Mentoring Program.

Dwyane Wade has certainly generated a reputation for himself – both as an extraordinary basketball player and one of the NBA’s most well dressed figures. Flashiness has never been characteristic of Wade, and he knows how to make a bold statement with class and effortless execution – both on and off the court. His fashion sense likewise reflects this as he chooses to don simple pieces that exude a sense of classic style.
The seven-time NBA All-Star guard has stayed grounded while rising to the top of the ranks as celebrity style icon, along with Miami Heat teammate LeBron James. As one of the first players to don slim-cut European-style suits, he has created somewhat of a signature look for himself – often with his sleeves pushed up – and has changed the game of sports players’ fashion.
Of his stellar fashion sense, Wade says, “I love fashion. I don’t know everything, but the thing I do know is to ask questions. That’s why I was up in Europe. I try to pick the brains of people who are great at fashion, who look good in clothes.”
Wade sought out YSL designer Stefano Pilati after seeing the brand’s collection because, at 6’4” and 220 pounds, Wade loves the brand’s ready-to-wear suits. While he is also a regular in the front rows of shows at Versace, DSquared2, and Louis Vuitton, Wade credits his father for his appreciation of fashion. Wade explains, “He used to dress up to go to work to drive, and I respected that.” He adds, “It makes you feel different even if no one perceives you as different. I think that’s what he was portraying to me, and that’s something I try to portray to my kids: For a lot of people, all they get is one impression of you, and a lot of times it might not even be a conversation.”
So what’s next for the fashion-forward NBA star? He is looking into eventually creating his own line of clothing but, most recently, the game has been watches. A known lover of haute horology, Wade debuted the $20,000 Hublot King Power D-Wade watch in Manhattan. The limited edition piece bears his famed jersey number, 3, and a net-like stitching on the band. Of his love for fine watches, Wade explains, “The things that don’t depreciate in value are art and watches. A car as soon as you drive it off the lot it’s gone, the value goes down. But not watches. Those are the things that as you get older you start to appreciate more.”

Those jetting off to the Hamptons this weekend for some Fourth of July fun should be sure to check out the 10th annual Vered Gallery Silent Art Auction.
The auction will feature artworks by Ross Bleckner, John Chamberlain, Chuck Close, Eric Fischl, Bill Viola, Andy Warhol, Ray Caesar and Raul Higuera and will be available for bidding online, by phone, and in the gallery until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Proceeds will benefit the ‘Turn the Corner’ foundation, an internationally recognized public charity, and leader in the fight against Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
Founded in February of 2002 by Staci and Rich Grodin, the two saw an urgent need for research, funding, and education in the area of tick-borne diseases, an epidemic that now affects more than seven million residents in Long Island.
Benefit Committee Co-Chairs Jay McInerney and Anne Hearst brought the ‘Turn the Corner’ foundation to the attention of Vered Gallery this spring when McInerney mentioned his interest in supporting a Lyme disease research program. An informative meeting with ‘Turn the Corner’ Director Stacey Sobel solidified the gallery’s support, and development of this summer’s Art Auction Benefit was quickly underway.
To view the silent auction and bid, visit www.veredart.com. Should a piece catch your eye, don’t miss the Last Bid Closing party on Sunday, July 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Those interested in learning more about the ‘Turn the Corner’ foundation should visit their website, http://turnthecorner.org/
