Haute Dress: What Would You Pay?

How much would you bid for the iconic billowing dress Marilyn Monroe wore in “The Seven-Year Itch?” The so –called “subway grate” dress easily outstripped the $1 million to $2 million estimated value , going for a cool $4.6 million on Saturday at an auction of memorabilia belonging to actress Debbie Reynolds.

As you remember, Reynolds, 79, had hoped to see her massive collection of costumes, key props, movie posters, original costume sketches and more, kept together in a museum collection.

Does anyone remember what line Marilyn uttered in the play, while her dress flew up around her? Of course not.

“Oh, do you feel the breeze from the subway?” Monroe said in the 1955 film. “Isn’t it delicious?”
