Cakes have been around for generations, but it’s the decorating that has evolved in leaps and bounds. This family-owned establishment opened its doors in 2001. Divine Delicacies glimmers brightest amongst the throng of other Miami bakeries because of their accolades, star-studded litany of clientele and their affinity for Swarovski crystals. They recently created a kingly, five-tiered, 6-foot-tall cake fashioned for Miami Heat star LeBron James, which sparkled with nearly 10,000 of those brilliant gems. The talented crew of Divine Delicacies can engineer just about any flavor from peanut butter to Key lime and they’ll even douse it with a little liqueur if you choose. Lauded by wedding authority The Knot, Divine Delicacies has been voted “Best of Wedding” for the past four consecutive years. Although the bakery’s bread and butter comes is definitely their elegant wedding cakes—they shuffle out almost 150 per week—the “tower of James” has propelled them to new heights alongside a lil’ help from a desperate Lil’ Wayne.

“We were working on a Saturday really late and we got a call at 9 p.m., [and] we close at 7 p.m.,” said Laura Candeau, sales director for Divine Delicacies. “We answered the phone and it was Lil’ Wayne’s manager. He needed a cake for the same night and we delivered.”

It is this innate ability to produce and please – sometimes at the drop of a hat- that has made this confectioner a local household and celebrity name.

Candeau’s parents, IlianaLombardero and the late Jorge Rodriguez, began making sweet treats in their homeland of Cuba back in 1985.  Ten years later, the émigré couple relocated to Miami where they lent their handiwork to other proven companies before embarking on their own with obvious success. As a unified force, Candeau produces all the sketches for the busy bakery, and her mother and the staff bring the confections to fruition. Divine Delicacies now employs the Rodriguez family and manages a staff of fourteen others.

The company, touted as “South Florida’s Celebrity Baker” is well known for their super-sized cakes as Candeau’s own wedding cake alone measured a whopping 8 feet from base to summit. They’ve also concocted sweet cakes for celebrity clientele such as LeBron and fellow Heat superstars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade and even an Hermes Birken bag-shaped cake for Bosh’s fiancé Adrienne Williams. Divine Delicacies has also catered to other high-end customers as Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, Carmen Electra, and Romero Britto.

These elite customers often order extreme cakes costing anywhere from $2,000 or more, depending on the size and the amount of crystals used. Divine Delicacies assures all cake-buyers that no errant bite will cost their guests a trip to the dentist since the crystals are applied on a string and removed before serving the tasty creation.
