Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Memorabilia Auction & Preview Exhibit
by Mary Nagle

It’s time to add some substance to your movie collection — substance in the form of Harpo Marx’s historic top hat, Dorothy Gale’s farm dress or another iconic piece of Hollywood history. And the best part? You can get them all in one place.

Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds has spent her career collecting some of the most recognizable artifacts from the silver screen’s past; from a test pair of ruby slippers to Marylin Monroe’s famous subway dress from The Seven Year Itch. For the first time ever, the one-of-a-kind collection is on display at the Paley Center for Media, and will be sold in three separate auctions that will be closed to the public.

The collection includes over 3,500 costumes, 20,000 original photographs, several thousand original movie posters, original costume sketches and hundreds of recognizable and beautiful props from film history. Pieces from Academy-Award winning films such as Gone with the Wind, Casablanca and The Sound of Music (to name a few) intermix with costumes of legendary names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, and many more.

Saturday’s Part I of the auction will feature approximately 700 of Debbie’s most famous artifacts, including one of Charlie Chapman’s signature bowler hats and the Monroe subway dress, estimated at a value of $2 million.

This is the last time the entire collection will be assembled in one place, so come see the exhibit sometime this week, or, if you intend to make a purchase, the auction will be Saturday, June 18, from noon to 7:00 p.m.
