Audemars Piguet Golf Ambassador Rory McIlroy Wins U.S. Open
by Jill Pankow
Rory McIlroy’s U.S. Open win this past Sunday June 19th at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, marked much more than the Audemars Piguet golf ambassador’s first career major. Not only did the 22-year-old’s victory make him the youngest U.S. Open winner in 88 years, he also finished with the tournament’s lowest winning score in relation to par at 16-under.

McIlroy, of Northern Ireland, came close to his first major win earlier this year before he botched a four-stroke lead in the final round of the Masters Tournament. “Augusta was a very valuable experience for me,” said McIlroy. “I learned a few things about myself and my game.” The learning experience seems to be paying off as McIlroy now climbs to Number 4 in The Official World Rankings.
McIlroy’s other major finishes include three third-place finishes in the 2009 and 2010 PGA Championships and at the 2010 British Open. Many consider this most recent win the first of many for the young and talented golfer.
Additional Audemars Piguet ambassadors include England native Lee Westwood who tied for 3rd place and last year’s winner Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland who tied for 14th place. Players for the Audemars Piguet Golf Team are Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Vijay Singh, Anthony Kim and Darren Clarke. All members of the team proudly don Royal Oak Offshore watches.
“The whole week has been incredible,” said McIlroy. “I couldn’t wish for much more. I’m so happy to be holding this trophy.”
