Works from Architect Richard Meier on Display in Long Island

Richard Meier, the glass and steel virtuoso, whose works embody quintessential simplicity and studies in lines, is inviting the public once again into his complex mind with the fifth consecutive season of the Richard Meier Model Museum in Long Island City. On May 13, 2011 the doors to Mr. Meier’s notable 40-year architectural career re-opened to the public to display structural models and the creative process of realizing them.
The 3,600-square-foot museum offers a glimpse at works from the 1960s to his most recent endeavors. A large-scale study model of the Getty Center in Los Angeles, a project Mr. Meier received critical acclaim for and was touted as one of his most ambitious achievements spanning fifteen years to complete, will be available to gawk at alongside a carefully curated collection. A pioneer of industrial design as well, Mr. Meier will present archetypes for furniture and products as well as a series of collages and wax sculptures.
From students to fanatics, a worldwide reverence for this distinguished man and his expansive career have impelled throngs of curious patrons through the doors year after year which has prompted the museum to offer the exhibition on a regular basis. The show is open from May 13, 2011 through August 19, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Forty-five minute tours are by appointment only and can be made through Richard Meier & Partners Architects: modelmuseum@richardmeier.com.
