Miami to Welcome Carnival’s Newest Luxury Cruise Ship to its Port Next Year
by Susie Wong

Next year Miami will be welcoming a 130,000-ton resident. The Carnival Breeze, Carnival Cruise Lines’ newest and largest addition to their expansive fleet will make its debut in Europe in June 2012 and then move to its permanent address at the Port of Miami in November. The cruise liner will offer six and eight-day Caribbean cruises and carry a total of 3,690-passengers. The Breeze, which is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, will be the sixth Carnival ship to be stationed in Miami.
The deal shows that the Port of Miami, the world’s busiest cruise port, is continuing to grow along with Port Everglades, which is currently in the phases of a terminal renovation for Carnival ships.
According to the press release, Carnival vessels are expected to carry about 1 million annual guests at the Port of Miami–the most for the Miami-based Carnival Corp. & PLC (NSYE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world’s largest cruise company. “The Port of Miami is a long-standing and valued partner, and we’re pleased to build upon that relationship by basing the Carnival Breeze in Miami year-round,” said Carnival President and CEO Gerry Cahill. “Our company has been based in Miami since it was founded nearly 40 years ago, and we can’t wait to welcome this exciting and innovative new ship to our hometown.”

The expansive Breeze will feature a WaterWorks aqua park; SportSquare, an open-air recreation complex, miniature golf and outdoor fitness area. The Lanai will boast a wraparound promenade with infinity-edge whirlpools, and a 270-square-foot poolside LED screen displaying movies and other programming.
