Haute Event: Hugh Jackman Wraps Up San Francisco Show

From May 3 to May 15, Australian native Hugh Jackman performed in a limited concert engagement at the Curran Theater in San Francisco, which was proudly presently by SHN. Jackman performed an array of Broadway and pop numbers over the course of the 90-minute show backed by a 17-piece on-stage orchestra. The show also included a short clip from his movies, stage work, and hosting gigs at the Oscars and Tonys.
He struck the audience first with a powerful rendition of “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” from Oklahoma, and, “One Night Only” from Dreamgirls. He let out his inner Ricky Martin by shaking his bon bon and kicking up his feet for a dance combination that included “I Won’t Dance” and “Shake Your Groove Thing,” then later brought a shy, unwary audience member on stage for a spontaneous dance lesson during his interpretation of the Peggy Lee classic “Fever.” He even channeled a little Elvis with “A Little Less Conversation” and “Jailhouse Rock,” as well as Queen’s very Elvis-like “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

Jackman isn’t a newbie to the stage; he received a Tony Award for best actor in a musical back in 2004 for his portrayal of the 1970s’ singer-songwriter, Peter Allen, in “The Boy From Oz.” Most recently, he performed on Broadway in the Keith Huff play “A Steady Rain,” which co-started Daniel Craig. The Aussie babe made his first major U.S. film appearance as Wolverine in the first series of the “X-Men” franchise, a role he reprised in the tremendously successful “X2” and 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand.
