HAutos: Rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupé, Sister to World’s Most Expensive Vehicle, Goes On Sale

The 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupé, the sister automobile of the world’s most expensive car, is hitting RM Auctions’ auction block at its Villa d’Este sale on Saturday, May 21. After its counterpart vehicle, the rare Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, set the record for the highest price ever paid for a single automobile, the Atalante Coupé is estimated to sell for as much as $6.2 million.

This rare and gorgeous piece of automotive history is just one of 40 total Type 57S chassis built and one of only 17 Atalante Coupés. The production of the vehicle only occurred from 1934 until 1940. The model was a pioneer in its time as an entirely new design under the direction of Jean Bugatti.

The high-profile lot set to sell has a fascinating history behind it, boasting long-term ownership, fastidious maintenance, documentation by marque expert David Sewell, and expert restoration within the Harrah Collection. The model’s celebrated luxury and craftsmanship won it the Best of Show Award at the 26th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 1976.
