Hautels: The Standard Presents Ryan McGinness Art Installations
by Evan Hosie

Hotels in Los Angeles just got a lot more interesting.

In May, The Standard, Hollywood and The Standard, Downtown LA will present a number of events and installations by artist Ryan McGinness as part of his month-long, multi-venue incursion in Los Angeles.

Not only will the artist’s porcelain-baked enamel works grace the interiors of The Standard, Downtown L.A. and the exterior façade of The Standard, Hollywood but at the Hollywood location, the artist will conduct a series of live drawing sessions for three consecutive nights (June 1 – 3) where he will be drawing live models in the vitrine of the hotel’s lobby.

This series of events culminates on June 4 with a Drawing Salon Party where McGinness will reveal the work from his sessions. Guests will be invited to participate in the process by making their own drawings of the live models on hand for the evening.

The Standard, Hollywood will host McGinness’ event-based exhibition Women: The Blacklight Paintings presented by Country Club gallery at the Purple Lounge on May 28. The artist’s blacklight paintings will be featured alongside body-painted dancers, igniting a dynamic interaction between canvas and environment. The project, co-produced by The Standard and Country Club, was unveiled in December at Miami’s infamous Club Madonna during Art Basel Miami Beach, then traveled to Le Bain at The Standard, New York in March during the Armory Show and will make its third and final stop in Los Angeles. The event will also mark the launch of the artist’s Blacklight Nudie Cards.

The Blacklight Nudie Cards will be sold exclusively at The Standard Shop at all four Standard hotels in NY, L.A., and Miami as well as online at Standard Hotels My Shopify through September. In addition, an exclusive silkscreened print edition of the Blacklight Nudie Cards printed in fluorescent inks is available through The Standard for a limited time.
