Steve Sabella at The Empty Quarter Gallery

Mamashisha, a popular free online guide about everything having to do with culture, lifestyle and entertainment in Dubai just held their first evening of “Culture and Conversation” at DIFC’s The Empty Quarter Gallery for the gallery’s opening night of Euphoria and Beyond, a photographic exhibition by acclaimed Palestinian artist Steve Sabella.

Initiated just seven months ago, Mamashisha utilizes social media platforms such as facebook and twitter to create a unique publication which offers readers the chance to interact and generate new ideas from each article posted. Founders Eiléen Lee and Amy Chan have both lived in multiple cities across the world and understand the challenges of a transient lifestyle. Mamashisha caters to the resident’s need to more greatly participate in Dubai’s cultural life. A community-focused publication, Mamashisha strives to embrace the local and modern culture of Dubai while also supporting regional businesses and environmental concerns.

This unique evening of cultural and artistic dialogue saw the Mamashisha online community engage openly in conversation with a special focus given to The Empty Quarter Gallery and Steve Sabella’s stunning photographic works. The evening’s great turnout underlines the presence of Dubai’s growing cultural community and the success of Mamashisha to unite Dubai’s cultural and artistic crowd.

In Euphoria and Beyond highly acclaimed Palestinian photographer Steve Sabella reveals work which

Palestinian artist Steve Sabella deconstructs images of his natural surroundings to create seemingly abstract renditions of the forms hidden in the unconscious. His works chart his new found freedom from a state of exile to the experience of beauty and the sublime. Born in 1975 in Jerusalem and residing between London and Berlin, Sabella was one of the commissioned artists for the inauguration of the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar. His artworks have been collected by the British Museum in London, the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and major collectors in the Middle East, including Cuadro Fine Art in Dubai and the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah.
