Haute Event: Celebrity Chefs Host Five-Course Dinner for Cancer Research at Eden Roc’s 1500° Restaurant

On Tuesday, May 17, 1500 Degrees in the Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach and Executive Chef Paula DaSilva of FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen” fame hosted Chefs for a Cure to benefit the American Association for Cancer Research. The exquisite five-course dinner was prepared by an incredible line-up of acclaimed chefs, including Dean Max of 3030 Ocean, Michael Bloise of American Noodle Bar, Timon Balloo of Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill, Sean Brasel of Meat Market, and pastry chef Hedy Goldsmith of Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink.

The evening highlighted  the life of a close friend of Chef DaSilva’s, who succumbed to cancer last year. DaSilva said, “Chefs for a Cure is a wonderful opportunity to bring incredibly talented chefs together to raise money for cancer research. And the American Association for Cancer Research is a wonderful organization to support.  Last year, my dear friend Leah Caputo lost her 11-year battle to breast cancer.  I wanted to honor her life by bringing chefs, friends and family together to enjoy two of Leah’s favorites – great food and wine – all while continuing to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.”

The spectacular dinner was designed to take guests on a gastronomic tour through the best of Miami’s culinary scene. The menu was host to a multitude of tempting dishes, such as Sautéed Sebastian Inlet Soft Shell Crab, Grilled Braised Oxtail, Pan Seared Snapper, Dry-Aged Beef Tenderloin with Red Wine Caviar, and Fresh Fruit Crostada. Each course was prepared by a different chef to highlight their specialties and was expertly paired with an array of fine wines.

In addition to the feast presented by the star chefs, the unprecedented evening also featured a reception co-sponsored by Maisons Marques & Domaines Champagne Louis Roederer, Sam Adams, and Votan organic vodka, as well as a silent auction on-site that raises additional funds for this important cause.

Proceeds from the event went  to the American Association for Cancer Research in Leah Caputo’s name. Of the successful night, DaSilva said,“We had such a great time putting on Chefs for a Cure. I couldn’t have been more grateful to the talented chefs who came out and cooked with me, the wonderful sponsors who supported the dinner and the generous patrons who attended. I know Leah would be proud, as was I.”

Although the date for next year’s Chefs for a Cure event has not yet been set, it will most likely take place in about the same time next year. “May is cancer awareness month so it seems a great time to do this all again. We look forward to making it bigger and even better,” adds DaSilva.
