The word misfit is defined quite literally as something or someone that does not, well, fit. When Chef Bob Lynn of LGO rolled up on the old boarded-up restaurant then named Anisette, he vowed to make something of it that would fit…into his plans to bring a proper and affordable brasserie to Santa Monica Blvd.
Last week the old refurbished digs, still bearing an air of its last incarnation, re-opened as The Misfit. The sultry gloom of the joint might whisk some minds off to France, in the time of Hemingway and Wilde in A Moveable Feast, while others might get the feel they just stepped into a piece of American history, and they wouldn’t be far off. The restaurant sits on the lower level of a historic Clock Tower around the way—and in juxtaposition—from the Third Street Promenade.
The Misfit, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, will also attract a juxtaposed clientele, since the address will most likely bring in local office workers and tourists. The most fitting aspect of this venture will be the menu, bearing light fare and late-night bites like mac and cheese or mini lobster rolls served from 10 p.m. to closing.
The Misfit is located at 225 Santa Monica Blvd. and opens daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, and 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday night.
