Hautels: SBE’s Redbury Hotel Heading to Soho
by Susie Wong

Hollywood’s The Redbury Hotel is invading Manhattan. New Yorkers may seem to be an immutable kind, however, they also manifest a sense of class and daring panache that allows their city to attract a range of people from the bourgeoisie to royalty. The Redbury Hotel, the new Hollywood staple located on the iconic corner of Hollywood and Vine, and also home to the critically-acclaimed restaurant Cleo, is on the definite verge of becoming bi-coastal.
Sam Nazarian, chief executive officer of sbe Hotel Group is in the conceptual phases, preparing to infuse the art-geared unpretentious Soho neighborhood with a little more boho-chic that this well-known hotel exudes. Earlier this month, sbe issued a press release confirming the project. The Los Angeles-based hotelier is responsible for other notable projects such as the Ritz Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach, SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills as well as another SLS South Beach location slated to open in March of 2012. The pioneering hospitality firm also claims high-concept restaurants with five Katsuya locations sprinkled around the Los Angeles and surrounding areas, The Bazaar by Joe Andres, and XIV by Michael Mina.
Creative Director and renowned photographer Matthew Rolston worked in close partnership with Nazarian to imbue the L.A. hotel with its signature vintage appeal. Characterized from the street by a hand-painted curtain exposing the brick-red façade, theater-like entrance and large-scale prints of Hollywood icons, the L.A. location offers 57 suites laced with exotic suzani and damask prints all boasting full European kitchens, washer and dryer units, oversized walk-in rain showers, and even a record player complemented by a vinyl collection. No telling on whether or not the New York setting will be a carbon copy.
Although many are skeptical that New Yorkers will fully embrace sbe’s kitchy concept, the sexy grand décor and vibrant ambience is sure to draw a curious crowd.
