Haute Event: South Florida Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Gala
by Blair Cassuto

The South Florida Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has raised a record of $315,000 during its ten-week pursuit to name the first annual LLS Miami Man and Woman of the Year. The gala took place at the InterContinental Miami on March 26, and featured a cocktail reception, wining, dining, dancing, and both live and silent auctions.
During the LLS’s ten-week local fundraising competition, which began on January 10, whichever male and female candidates raised the most money was crowned with the title of 2011 Man and Woman of the Year. Keith St. Clair was named LLS Man of the Year and LLS Woman of the Year went to Kimarie Stratos. The money raised is used by LLS to fund research and cure-seeking remedies for patients diagnosed with cancer.

This year’s Boy and Girl of the Year were Alex Aguilera and Victoria Mejia. Both Alex and Victoria are local children who are survivors of blood cancer.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization, and are dedicated towards funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. Their mission, which is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease, and Melanoma, has enabled them to raise over $750 million in research since being founded in 1949.
