Haute Event: LA Fashion Collective Presents Fall 2011 Cocktail Party

Models show off Katie May's fall 2011 collection

On Wednesday night, LA Fashion Collective corralled fashion PR forerunners, showroom owners, and taste-making hipsters inside Stone Rose Lounge at Sofitel Hotel to witness some of the city’s most impressive, budding design talent. Styled by Amy Nicole Bernstein and Alison Carreon of Wardrobe Wear, models exhibited fall womenswear from Katie May, Alexx Jae & Millk, and Pleasure Doing Business.

In my opinion, the standout of the evening was the newest member of L.A.’s fashion scene, Katie May. In a sea of fashion-forward bandage dresses and flashy bohemian vests, May showcased a different kind of look—one exuding refined, modern romance—with washed silk blouses,  finely tailored dresses, and draped jackets.

A Cal Poly business major and former sales executive at Juicy Couture, May launched her vision just a couple years ago when producing bridesmaid dresses for her own wedding; an act that left everyone graveling for more. With a new husband in tow, an e-commerce Web site, and a plethora of booming publicity, May is growing quicker than expected.  But mass market, overly trend-based clothing is not an option. Attention to detail and luxurious, wearable glamour are the key elements to her carefully and beautifully mapped-out vision.
