Haute Event: Haven4Japan Raises $16,000 for Mercy Corps

After the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Japan, Executive Chef Greg Daniels of Haven Gastropub knew that he had to do something — it was the same feeling that drove him to Haven4Haiti, the fundraiser that raised $11,000 for the earthquake in Haiti last year. Haven4Japan took over Haven’s dining room March 28th and with over $16,000 raised for Mercy Corps, you can consider this it a great success for Haven’s fundraising efforts.
During the event, Haven owners donated 100% of the night’s profits to a relief fund established through Mercy Corps to help families and communities affected by the earthquake in Japan. The staff that night also donated all gratuities collected to the fund, making it a team effort, with every Haven employee and diner working towards helping the communities in Japan.
“We will continue to support relief efforts in Japan through Mercy Corps and we encourage those who would like to join us to visit our fundraising page and donate to the relief efforts,” said Daniels. “We need to remember that we are part of a global community and it is our responsibility to do our part to help those in need – wherever they may be.”
Full details on the Haven and Mercy Corps partnership, including the results of its efforts during the “Haven4Haiti” fundraiser in 2010 and this year’s “Haven4Japan” fundraiser, can be found on the restaurant’s official fundraising page (www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/havengastropub).
Haven Gastropub is located at 190 S. Glassell St., in Orange. For more information or to make reservations, call the restaurant directly at 714.221.0680 or visit their official web site at www.havengastropub.com.
