Haute Dining: Andrew Carmellini’s Anticipated Restaurant The Dutch Is Now Open!

Andrew Carmellini is the James Beard Award winning, Michelin-starred force behind the acclaimed Italian restaurant Locanda Verde located in Robert DeNiro’s Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca. Now, along with Josh Pickard and Luke Ostrom, Carmellini has opened his highly anticipated second restaurant, The Dutch. The grand opening of the simply yet sophistically designed restaurant took place last night, April 25, at 11 p.m. drawing attention to the restaurant’s late-night dining availability. In fact, there’s even an exclusive late night menu, with midnight munchies to knock your dancing shoes off, such as an Egg Okonomiyaki with Pork Belly.

The Dutch has Carmellini deviating from his culinary roots in Italian and French cuisine into a focus on good old American cooking and, as Carmellini describes it, “not modern and not new.” Embracing all the delicious diversity that our nation’s cuisine has to offer, the excitingly tantalizing dinner menu ranges from savory standards like a Dry-Aged Bone-In NY Strip, Hot Fried Chicken, and Peel N’ Eat Prawns to more non-conventional and intriguingly tempting dishes like the Lamb Neck Mole with Chayote and Red Rice, a Rabbit Pot Pie with Hard Cider, Spring Vegetables, and Mustard, and a Smoked & Roasted Chicken Paprikash with Potato Dumplings.

Additionally, the Dutch features an adjacent Oyster Room where diners have their choice of oysters from several locations, crab claws, ceviche made with champagne, and caviar service. There is also a smoker on the premises, but don’t expect any barbeque. It’s used for smoking eggs for a salad, whitefish for chowder, lamb sausage, ricotta for their ravioli, and chicken for the paprikash. But make sure to save room for dessert! They offer freshly baked pied made daily, rice pudding, flan, and more.

To top off the experience, The Dutch offers an incredible selection of craft beers, a list of 250 bottles of wine, and a cocktail menu, which features updated classics and some more playful creations, such as the “Dutch Courage,” a tasty mix of gin, kumquat marmalade, and grapefruit…with a citrus salt rim, of course.

The Dutch is located at 131 Sullivan St at Prince St. For more information, visit www.TheDutchNYC.com or call 212.677.6200.
