Haute Cocktails: New sporty drinks at the Halekulani
by Catherine E. Toth
Summer means two things: the kind of weather perfect for outdoor fun — and cocktails to match.
And with that, Tim Rita, a bartender at the award-winning Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki, has devised five new cocktails perfect for two of this season’s major sporting events: the Tour de France and the Tinman Triathlon, both held in July.

Here are three of the drinks, shown above (left to right):
“Ehukai” (Hawaiian for “red-tinged water” and the location of the popular North Shore surf spot Banzai Pipeline) — with coconut-flavored vodka, red mangoes, basil leaves, fresh lime juice, simple syrup and cream — is dedicated to the swim portion of the Tinman.
“Thyme to Roll,” inspired by the triathlon’s bike leg, features blueberry-infused Makers Mark, orange curacao, sprigs of thyme, blueberries, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup.
And the “Revive Elixir” — with lychee-flavored vodka, fresh raspberries, fresh calamansi and mint sprigs — is a nod to the last leg, or the run portion, of the triathlon.
All these drinks will be available at the hotel’s posh Lewers Lounge from June 1 to July 31.
