On Sunday, May 1, from 3 to 5 p.m., world-renowned chef Barbara Fenzl will host a special class paying tribute to the legendary Julia Child and Simone Beck, Fenzl’s personal friends and authors of the famed “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” cookbook.

As a well-being education program offered through the Desert Botanical Garden, Fenzl’s class will feature the preparation of a springtime menu that’s perfect for entertaining. Throughout the two hours, Fenzl will share photos and stories about her time spent with Child and Beck, as well as her thoughts on the duo’s famous cookbook, which revolutionized the American food scene and made French food accessible to home chefs.

Class participants will delight in trying Child’s chilled asparagus soup with Fenzl’s ancho cream; creamy zucchini quiche’ strawberry and spinach salad with a strawberry vinaigrette; and Reine de Saba (Queen of Sheba) cake with Fenzl’s salted and decadent chipotle caramel sauce.

Fenzl is a certified culinary professional, cooking instructor, cookbook author and food journalist who studied at Cordon Bleu in London and at Ecole Lenotre in Paris. Having served as a former president of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and as a former board member of the American Institute of Food and Wine, she has also been host of the PBS television series “Savor the Southwest” and contributed to numerous culinary magazines, including Bon Appetit and Phoenix Home and Garden.

Would-be participants can register for “Barbara Fenzl’s Tribute to Two Women Who Changed the Way America Eats” through the DBG website. The cost for members is $75, and the cost for non-members is $94. Class enrollment is limited to just 18 individuals, so don’t hesitate!
