As with most cities, finding a decent cup of coffee can be somewhat of a task in Dallas. Discovering the perfect espresso is even more of a feat. You’d rather guzzle gasoline than succumb to a quick stop at Starbucks, and the mom and pop shops lack that European classiness one gets while enjoying an authentic Cuban espresso on a sun dappled patio. For the best coffees in the coolest atmospheres, check out the top 5 places to sip espresso here in Dallas.
Haute Secrets Las Vegas
Evan Glusman
The stats: Born and raised in Las Vegas, currently living in the Las Vegas Country Club Estates.
Why he loves Las Vegas: Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World. Where else can you feast on the world’s tastiest cuisine from an unparalleled roster of celebrity chef eateries, see the best entertainment that Broadway has to offer and enjoy the scintillating nightlife until the wee hours of the morning? It’s all here and more. I’m proud to call Las Vegas home and love the diversity this city continues to offer.
Who says Las Vegas doesn’t have any long-standing businesses? Piero’s Italian Cuisine is one of those old-school restaurants that has been serving up one of the best osso buccos in the city for more than 30 years. Evan Glusman, who took over operations from his father Freddie, remembers helping prep food at age 10 and busing tables when he was 12. He skipped school the day Sharon Stone filmed the scenes for “Casino” in a booth at the restaurant. Piero’s remains the type of place to see the power players of Las Vegas: Holly Madison dining in a corner booth; attorneys Michael V. Cristalli and Marc Saggese taking a table by the bar. And none of them are ever bothered. Piero’s is that kind of classy. Find out Evan Glusman’s favorite places in Las Vegas in our latest Haute Secrets guide to the city.

Las Vegas is beginning to reopen its infamous set of outdoor playgrounds; Downtown Los Angeles is quick to follow. But, this year don’t expect just the usual rooftop suspects to welcome an overwhelming amount of patrons in search of a night under the stars. A few new “kids” are expected in town, including Perch, located inside the age-old Pershing Square Building.
This May, partners Rachel Thomas and Coly Den Haan (The Must wine bar) will introduce their French-American brainchild to Downtown’s social scene with a three-story, indoor/outdoor destination. With various dining and entertainment spaces, a rooftop bar, and classic French bistro fare, the establishment has officially altered the Downtown skyline. Thomas and Haan added the top two stories onto the historical structure for the pure joy of bringing their all-glass, towering vision to life.
“It’s a French girl in an American dress,” says Haan.
Even though extensive menus of Armagnacs and Cognacs will be offered all throughout the night, you won’t find businessmen and businesswomen acting overly proper in a stuffy atmosphere here. Instead you’ll find them donning jeans, sipping cocktails around a fire pit, and taking in burlesque and cabaret performances amidst a sea of playful deco-inspired décor.
Perch will be open seven days a week from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. To make a reservation or book a private event, email info@perchla.com.
Pershing Square Building is located at 448 South Hill St.

Over 500 guests flocked to the Jet Ten Hangar in Addison in support of the August Alexander’s “First Lady” collection debut by designer, Courtney Russell. The night opened with a VIP reception with bites and Belvedere and Moet Chandon cocktails as guests rubbed elbows with some of Dallas’ finest. Photographers and news media swarmed for interview exclusives, while the filming of a new Bravo reality show pilot of Dallas’ most eligible featuring Glenn Pakulak, Courtney Kerr, Daylon Pereira, and Tara Harper buzzed about the expansive space.
DJs Paul Paredes and Jen Miller set the sounds for the space within the Redbull soundstage as Bri Crum’s Plan B PR team coordinated all of the evening’s activities. The front rows was a sight to see and be seen with guests that included the likes of the mayor of Addison, Joe Chow, pro golfer Tommy Armour III, and NFLers, Jim Wood and Donald Mitchell. Many flew in for a first-class viewing of the collection, such as Miami entrepreneurs: Damon Huynh and Anthony Worku. Fashion icons Janet Elaine Frésquez, Yvonne Crum, Gregg Asher and Christian Iles and a bevy of beauties like: Mina Chang and Abby Gregory graced us with their presence. Local Dallas designers, Shirin Askari of Project Runway Season 6 and Khanh Nguyen of Nha Khanh, also came out to support their fellow fashion brethren.
Attendees were entranced as the aviator dressed male model dutifully opened the hangar door to reveal a private jet complete with a crew of models in jetset style. Ladylike looks flew down the mirrored runway on the literal airport runway that were inspired from the first lady in Russell’s life, his mother. The ready-to-wear “First Lady” collection was comprised of A-line dresses, floral and patterned prints, hounds tooth, and pops of color; all fitting for the woman-on-the-go. Russell, known for his impeccable tailoring and signature-structured jackets did not disappoint with an eye-popping look that included red pants and a tousled blouse topped with the most perfect little gray jacket. Homage to classic icons Jackie-O, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly were channeled August Alexander’s vision. The final look was a sinfully and strategically placed gown that took the audience’s breath away that we might have needed oxygen masks to release from above. A balance of both flirty design with rich sumptuous fabrics and prints made for a standout collection.
The proceeds from the event benefitted the Suicide and Crisis Center and the Autism Treatment Centers of Dallas. Both centers enrich the Dallas community with free and confidential resources, services, and support for those in need with crisis and autistic issues. We still have our heads in the clouds after glorious evening with August Alexander.
