Haute Event: Dwyane Wade Hosts “Boys and their Toys” Charity Event
by Delilah Smith

Dwyane Wade; NBA All-Star basketball champion, and guard for the Miami Heat. DJ Irie; internationally renowned DJ, and leader of all beats and music of different genres. Would you ever even fathom that these two masters of their profession would end up joining forces for the same cause? Well, if you wouldn’t, then you are proven wrong.

On March 24, in Fort Lauderdale, superstars Dwyane Wade and DJ Irie teamed up with Specialty Automotive Treatments to raise over $40,000 for Wade’s World Foundation at a special “The Boys & Their Toys” event.

The event was off to a fantastic start the moment the doors opened, as Wade, Irie, and Ralph Jorge (owner of Specialty Automotive Treatments) said a very warm and serene welcome to all of the supportive guests. The SAT showroom was full of notable NBA stars as well as other prestigious guests alike. As HEAT broadcaster Jason Jackson emceed the festivities, guests were invited to munch on the delicious food provided by the East Grill, and sip on the complimentary cocktails that were produced to perfection by the best bartenders of Miami.

But the highlight of the night would had to have been the fabulous auction that took place, offering dazzling prices that only the most wealthy could retrieve. Featured auction items included a “once-in-a-lifetime” Dwyane Wade Experience which included courtside seats to a HEAT game, dinner for two to Prime 112 in South Beach, and the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with Wade.  This item was so popular, and so demanded, that Wade graciously offered up an additional package to accommodate two separate bidders.

Other auction items included a “Sip. Savor. Flirt. Play” Package from the W Hotel Fort Lauderdale; a “Peace Thru Music” diamond necklace and bracelet set from Levinson Jewelers, plus a magnificent dinner for four at SoLita Las Olas; The Collection’s Audi Model Driving Experience which included a trip to Sonoma, California; and a custom installed ESCORT 9500ci GPS enabled Radar Detector and Laser Shifter, plus a Custom Katzkin Leather interior from Specialty Automotive Treatments. Event sponsors also included East City Grill, Levinson Jewelers, The Collection, W Fort Lauderdale, Whiskey Blue, Steak 954, Bliss, CIROC Vodka and Aventura Worldwide Transportation.

Without a doubt, this event was one of the most talked about happenings this month in South Florida, and with the congenial cause that it is promoting for young children in need, it also happens to be one of the most humanitarian.

Haute Event: Jason Bell Launches “An Englishman in New York”
by Daniela Rodriguez

What would be of New York if it didn’t have its diverse population? People come from all over the world searching for the American Dream. A particular group that seems to be very prominent is the British. And what would be a better way to highlight the British culture in New York than a book full of photographs of British-born figures living in the city by Jason Bell?

Thomas Pink, the British Shirt Authority, hosted a spectacular event to celebrate the U.S. launch of Jason Bell’s new book, An Englishman in New York, on the night of March 24 at its Madison Avenue flagship store. The book shows many photographs of those who were born in Britain and are now living in the City That Never Sleeps. The Thomas Pink store was converted into a beautiful gallery space with a broad selection of Bell’s portraits from An Englishman in New York on display during the party. An Englishman in New York features taxi drivers, cops, construction workers, divers, helicopter pilots, chefs, burlesque dancers, drug dealers, UN ambassadors and even dog walkers—many of which, among others, attended the party to honour Jason and his book.

The launch party embodied the key elements that represented all things British in the heart of New York, with over 300 guests enjoying U’luvka Vodka specialty cocktails suitably named “The Englishman” and “The New Yorker”. British hors d’oeuvres, such as petite Shepherd’s pies and smoked Scottish salmon on buckwheat waffles. The display of a handsome London taxi owned by Tea & Sympathy and A Salt & Battery of the West Village completed the atmosphere. It was stationed on Madison Avenue in front of Thomas Pink’s Flagship store for guests to marvel at. Guests were able to move to the beats of British music hits, from Sting to The Smiths.

Some of those that were in attendance were Jason Bell, Photographer, Guy Harrington, Editor of An Englishman in New York, Mark Weber, CEO, LVMH, Inc. and Chairman and CEO, Donna Karan International, Jonathan Heilbron, President and CEO of Thomas Pink, Jean-Marc Plisson, CEO of Fresh, Inc., Mark Holmes, Founder of U’luvka Vodka, Colin Asare-Appiah, Brand Ambassador and Mixologist for U’luvka Vodka, Sir Mark Lyall Grant, U.K. Ambassador for the United Nations, Vicky Ward, Author and Vanity Fair Contributing Editor, Nicky Perry and Sean Kavanagh-Dowsett, Owners of Tea & Sympathy and A Salt & Battery.

Celebrity Living: Jennifer Aniston Lists $42,000,000 Beverly Hills Estate
by Daniela Rodriguez

The beautiful and classy Jennifer Aniston has put her home on the market. Her 10,000-square-foot, five bedroom, seven and a half bathroom home is officially on the market for an astronomical asking price of $42 million. The mansion is located in Beverly Hills, California, along with the homes of many other celebrities who live in the same highly coveted neighborhood.

It is on the market just month after completing an extensive expansion and undergoing a flawless multi-million dollar rennovation. The home was designed by Hal Leavitt and re-worked by Stephen Shadley, and has an Asian and Balinese-inspired theme. The name of the home is called Ohana and it is a gated home with tons of privacy. It sits on one acre of land and includes the staff suite and expansive master bedroom with two bathrooms that include steam showers, sunken tubs and a Japanese Ofuro tub.

Even though this property may be voluminous, it is still cozy, having two living rooms, one with a wet bar and the other wrapped in rosewood paneling. It features several dining areas, a gourmet kitchen and a separate catering kitchen for large parties and events. The wood, glass and stone residence is equipped with state-of-the-art smart house technology, extensive security systems, a home gym, an equipment room, heaps of storage space, a 3-car garage and motor court. The vast walls of floor to ceiling glass seamlessly merge the luxe interior spaces with the resort-style grounds that include large terraces, various water features and, natch, a celebrity style infinity-edged swimming pool and spa with 180-degree views from downtown to the Pacific Ocean.

Aniston purchased this property in November 2006 for $13,500,000.

Haute Event: The Sony Ericsson Open Bombay Sapphire Mix-Off!
by Delilah Smith

You know how sometimes close friends get together for a friendly competition of cocktail mixing? They go over each other’s homes for the sole purpose of bragging rights, and seeing who can create the best concoction of everyone’s favorite refreshing alcoholic beverages. Now, imagine this same event but with A-List tennis players at a swanky Miami lounge. Sounds fancy?

Well the Sony Ericsson Open’s 2nd Annual Player Mix-Off stayed true to the fun and light-heartedness of the game while still maintaining the lavishness of South Florida by setting it up at the Bombay Sapphire Lounge.

After three straight matches of tennis during the Sony Ericsson Open, the players of this event were more than happy to finally battle it out for a different prize: Best Cocktail Maker. But these competitors were not common enemies; they instead were Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt, who just so happen to be partners for the doubles tournaments of tennis. These previous colleagues put their collaboration on the back-burner to battle head-to-head in this competition of fly glasses and splashing drinks. Judged by glamorous Real Housewife of Miami, Cristy Rice, the competitors made their own creations, but did not forget to make the Sony Ericsson’s signature cocktail, the Bombay Sapphire Ace Collins.

Now although everyone was interested in seeing who would come out triumphant in this event, but because both drinks were so fantastic, the tournament ultimately ended in a tie, and finalized the Sony Ericsson Open with fun, laughter, and amazing drinks that dazzled the guests, surely making them not want to wait until they could come back next year and have an even more remarkable time.

Enjoy a Cherry Blossom Body Polish at the Four Seasons & Support Japan

The Spa at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North has introduced a deluxe Cherry Blossom Body Polish treatment in time for spring. Plus, a portion of proceeds from the service will support aid in Japan.

Spring and summer mean swimsuits and sunshine, and do you know what goes best with that healthy glow? Smooth, healthy and radiant skin. The Cherry Blossom Body Polish at the Spa at Four Seasons Scottsdale begins with a sweet cherry blossom sugar scrub to invigorate your skin and buff it to perfection. Next, a deeply hydrating cherry blossom body butter will be applied to your newly exfoliated skin in order to lock in moisture and make you positively glow. Not to mention, you’ll smell positively divine.

The 50-minute treatment is $165, and when you book the Cherry Blossom Body Polish (available through the end of April), Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the American Red Cross, to be directed toward the Japanese relief effort.

Following your spa time, consider grabbing lunch or enjoying a beverage on the property. To show further support for Japan, the Four Seasons has also added a special line item to all food and beverage checks for guests who want to make a charitable contribution. And we have a great idea for dessert, too: The resort will be offering cherry cupcakes in their lobby from noon to 5 p.m. each day throughout the month of April, also for an optional donation.

So feel free to give as much or as little as you can, as proceeds from both of the above optional donation opportunities will be directed toward aid in Japan as well.

Haute Event: Tim Gunn at Fashion Island

You’ve seen him on Project Runway telling would-be designers to make it work, to mitigate and to edit down their ideas, but now you’ll have your chance to see him in person when Tim Gunn presents the best of spring’s sartorial offerings at Fashion Island on April 16th. He’s teamed up with the Liz Claiborne, Inc., boutiques at the center to put on a fashion show and give tips on looking your best. Make room in your schedule and you’ll definitely be “in.”

More than just a co-host, Tim Gunn is a mentor and confidante on Project Runway. Since he’s been with Liz Claiborne, Inc. as Chief Creative Officer, though, he’s been bringing that same mentorship and friendship to women everywhere with his book Gunn’s Golden Rules and articles in Elle, Marie Claire and more. And like at his position as Honorary Chair at Parsons: the New School for design, he’ll be bringing the same sage advice when he showcases the latest from Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand Jeans and Kate Spade during a fashion presentation in the Neiman Marcus/Bloomingdale’s courtyard at 1:00 p.m. He’ll be explaining how the new spring pieces can be integrated into any wardrobe and explain the importance of proportion, fit and personal style.

Be sure to get there early, since there’ll be no reserved seating at the event. But for true Gunn fans, shoppers can get a professional photo with the style guru. Just spend a total of $150 at the Liz Claiborne, Inc. boutiques at Fashion Island.

Fashion Island is located at 401 Newport Center Dr., in Newport Beach. For more information on the Tim Gunn personal appearance, call 949.720.3300. For more information on Fashion Island, visit their official web site at www.shopfashionisland.com.

Haute Spot: New Porsche Design Store Rolls Into San Francisco

"New Porsche Design Boutique Adds Spice to a Reved Up Lifestyle"

Porsche, a name synonymous with classic luxury, has reved up the wow factor here in San Francisco. Under the Porsche Design brand, a high-adrenaline accessories store on Grant Street near Union Square has opened and offers a full range of Porsche Design products.

“San Francisco is an important location for our brand,” sayd Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of Porsche Design Group. “The people living here are creative types that support and seek out good design.”

Porsche Design products blend fashion with function, and add the splash of international swagger that only the prestigious Porsche name can deliver. Quality luggage, pens, sunglasses, watches, home electronics, and small leather goods have been a part of Porsche Design’s product line for years, all of which are sold at the store along with the Porsche Design label’s chic selection of men’s and women’s fashion. Porsche Design boutiques are found all over the world, including Europe, Asia and Australia. This is the first Porsche Design store in Northern California.

The Porsche Design Studio was established in Stuttgart, Germany in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, grandson of the Porsche founder and designer of the Porsche 911, the quintessential sports car turned iconic classic. Like the car, the accessories are timeless and functional, characterized by innovation, and imbued with a style that gives new meaning to the word ‘racey’.

Porsche Design is located at 100 Grant Street.
