Where tennis meets reality TV, “Sony Ericsson Xperia Hot Shots” promises to be an innovative and interactive experience for fans. For months, people have been waiting to find out the identities of the six WTA players chosen for this web-based TV show that will follow the lives of six top up-and-coming female tennis players from the WTA Tour. On Sunday, March 20 starting at 4 p.m., world tennis superstar Maria Sharapova will team up with DJ Jazzy Jeff to host the show’s launch party – which is open to the public – to reveal the stars of the show at the exclusive Surfcomber Beach Hotel in Miami Beach, just in time for the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Xperia Hot Shots is a fully interactive experience. Episodes will stream on YouTube and the girls will be using the Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets, allowing them to film their own content, share it online, and interact with fans on Facebook and other social networks. Of the show, WTA icon Maria Sharapova said, “I think it’s great for the players, the sport, and viewers alike. Sony Ericsson is bringing entertainment to the game as only they can. The show will provide an opportunity for the players to attract new fans in a way that has never been done before. I wish I’d had access to this when starting out as it brings entertainment into our world of tennis, as well as a chance to interact with fans.”

The show will intimately capture the girls’ lives both on and off the court along with a series of “Charlie’s Angels” type challenges and activities that will take them through the worlds of music, film, fashion, and even gaming. On their journey to superstardom, the girls will have a chance to grow their online fanbase, which is highly important for any modern sporting icon, and will feature cameos from celebrities and guest mentors, coverage of stunts, glamorous VIP events, and riveting coverage of tournaments including those in Miami, Wimbledon, Beijing, and more. Now what makes this really fun is that the Xperia Hot Shots is also a competition – each girl on the show is competing to become the most popular on Facebook by the end of the season, with the winner receiving the prize of a Sony Ericsson support deal.

For the big reveal, the Hot Shots will be unveiled on a giant stage replica of the Xperia Hot Shots Facebook homepage. To kick off the party, DJ Jazzy Jeff will take breaks from his DJ sets to meet and greet the public with Maria Sharapova and the freshly debuted Hot Shots.
