Haute Workout: Celebrity Fitness Instructor Sara Shears to Teach Ugi at Equinox San Francisco
by Daniela Rodriguez

Summer is almost here. Are you in shape?

If you are constantly worrying about not having enough time to spend hours at the gym to earn the pleasure of wearing that bathing suit that has been at the back of your drawer this whole winter, now is the time to do it! With the help of a revolutionary but yet so simple Ugi workout. Fortunately, if you want to try out the Ugi fitness program for yourself, the creator and co-founder of Ugi, Sara Shears, will be hosting classes at Equinox San Francisco and Equinox Palo Alto.

“I wanted to create a system that enabled people at home to get the same benefits as people I train personally,” explains Shears. “The inspiration for Ugi came from my work with celebrity clients. Many of them already work 12 to 15 hours a day, and can’t spend another hour and half working out. That’s the same for most people, who have really busy lives. I wanted to create a total system that only takes 30 minutes, because then people can really stick with it.”

The Ugi program is a total functional fitness workout that incorporates a series of back-to-back exercises done in 15-second, 30-second, or one-minute intervals. This will get you the body you have always dreamed of in no time. Each of the five workouts makes you warm up, do cardio, strength conditioning, balance, and cool down.

The Ugi ball may look a typical workout ball but it is completely distinct from the others that are commonly seen. To get a fully functional Ugi ball, it took two years of research and development. It is a plush, weighted workout ball with the squish of a beanbag, the bounce-back of a stress ball, and the beauty of simple design. The Ugi ball comes in four different weights at 6 lbs, 8 lbs, 10 lbs, and 12 lbs, fitting the needs of any individual. With the easiness of being able to take it anywhere, from the gym, office, and beach to your vacation trip or backyard. This program was designed for those that didn’t have any time on their hands to head to the gym.

At Equinox San Francisco, Shears will be teaching on Tuesday, March 15 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and again from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The following day, Wednesday, March 16, she will teach at Equinox Palo Alto from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The classes are open to both Equinox members and non-members.
