Haute Fashion: Saks Fifth Avenue Dubai Spring Summer 2011 Fashion Show

Under the ominous looking ‘Gate’ at the DIFC, The Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Spring Summer 2011 Fashion Show previewed what will be in store as the warmer (and humid!) months approach rapidly.

What was unique about this show was the partnership between a well-loved fashion emporium with Harpers Bazaar Arabia who continue to capture the sophistication of the region every month. More than 60 looks were unveiled, from the multitude of contemporary and designer womenswear, menswear and accessories. The looks were playful; Halston Heritage, Erdem, Giambattista Valli and Nina Ricci were amongst the designs that walked showing what was in store for women of substance. For men, the casual look prevailed with the mix of lightweight fabrics in blazers, shorts and turned-up trouser cuffs.

Make-up was provided by Giorgio Armani, with a focus on a ‘morning glow’ to reflect the latest spring colour palette.

A stand out on the runway was the looks from Toby, the Saudi based menswear label that is bringing the traditional ‘Thobe’ to the forefront of fashion. The sharp cuts and detailing have earned designer Hateem Alakeel a cult following in Dubai and further afield. Hateem attended not only in support of his new collection but also to give a message to the attendees – some guests were gifted with wrist bands fashioned from shimagh (traditional fabric for the men’s headdress) and embroidered with the word ‘PEACE’ in the hope to bring some awareness and reflection to a time where many areas are embroiled in unrest.

The new collections are now available in store at Saks Fifth Avenue at the Burjuman Centre.
