Haute Event: World Premiere of Magic City Memoirs at Miami International Film Festival

The Miami International Film Festival is finally here! Though there are many films screened over the week, one film in particular has already caused a huge buzz. Magic City Memoirs, which was given a second screening for Saturday, March 12 to accommodate those who were unable to purchase tickets for this Friday’s red carpet premiere, which sold out in less than one week.
The red carpet gathering will begin at 6 p.m. at the historic Gusman Theatre followed by the screening of the film at 6:45 p.m. Afterwards, the filmakers will be hosting a private VIP party at Villa 221 in Downtown Miami to celebrate the achievement of the film with those that worked hard for it. Sponsors such as Bacardi, Versailles, Normans 180, and Asia de Cuba have already lined up for this exclusive event.
Academy Award nominated actor and director and executive producer of Magic City Memoirs, Andy Garcia, along with Magic City Memoirs director Aaron J. Salgado and producer Jaydee Freixas, will be awarded the Lexus Pursuit of Perfection award.
Magic City Memoirs is a drama involving three high school friends who get caught up in the wrong situations that make them choose between graduation or their mortality. Each one of them have hopes, as one is into sports, the other into academics, the third, into drugs. The film is based on true stories from directors’ experiences growing up in the Miami private school scene.
Cast members also include J.R. Villarreal, who starred in the feature film Akeelah and the Bee; Emmy Award winning actor Jordi Villasuso, who co-starred in The Lost City, and is now playing a major role in the ABC Daytime hit series, All My Children; Michael Cardelle, who also co-starred in Jamaica Motel; Julio Mechoso whose long Hollywood resume includes substantial roles in Bad Boys, Jurassic Park III, and Little Miss Sunshine; and Nestor Serrano, who has had a starring role in Season 4 of 24.
