Haute Event: Symphony Style Hosts S/S 2011 Collections Preview in Support of World Down Syndrome Day

March 20 marked the first day of spring so it was apt that one of Dubai’s most lauded style meccas, Symphony Style, chose to host the launch of the Spring/Summer 2011 collections titled “The Garden of Symphony.”

The Symphony concept is one of a harmony between luxury and the unique; the designers are carefully selected for their creativity and unusual design aesthetics merged with a sense of what is highly wearable for the Middle East market. Erin Fetherston, Camilla Skovgaard, Mara Hoffman, DAS Collection and Christian Siriano (of “Project Runway” fame) are amongst the designers stocked within the light and airy space, along with new season additions from Chris Benz and Prabul Gurung.

The Symphony Style concept is in addition to General Manager Salama Alabbar’s other fashionable ventures; in 2008 Alabaar opened Marami, a widely popular accessories store in the Dubai Mall, bringing a mix of quirky and beautiful pieces from international designers such as House of Harlow and Vanina. The opening of Temperley London soon followed. The ethos surrounding all three ventures remains in the same vein – unique and coveted pieces that express the femininity within the wearer.

The center piece of the event revealed a new art installation by Emirati artist Moaza Matar, revealing spectacular dresses surrounded by feather-light butterflies encircling and creating a fashionable secret garden. An ethereal lilac gown created by Luisa Beccaria was the showstopper with layers of frothy tulle enveloping the body creating a whimsical effect with a playful edge.

The Symphony event also served as a vehicle to create awareness of a good cause; proceeds from the sales on 20 March were contributed to the UAE Down Syndrome Association in support of World Down Syndrome Day. Guests could try the new collection pieces and eat the tiny cakes safe in the knowledge that all the credit card swiping was for good cause.
