Haute Event: 9 to 5 Makes Its SCFTA Debut

Hello, Dolly! The country crooning superstar’s film 9 to 5 has been a comedic favorite since it’s debut and now it’s spawned a hit Broadway musical. Coming to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts May 10th through 15th, you can relive your favorite scenes from the movie and sing along to the title track (and the rest of Dolly’s score) while you get pulled into this fun, sassy and magical new musical.
The Daily News sums it up by saying “it shines! Dolly Parton’s songs are bouncy, big hearted, fresh and original.” Through its Grammy and Tony-award nominated score, 9 to 5: The Musical weaves a tale of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. The story of three not-so-average friends who plan to take control of their company, the show is a raucous, fun trip that shows that women can rule – even in a man’s world. Debuting in Los Angeles in 2008 and them moving to New York in 2009, it’s delighted crowds since opening night with a singalong, anthemic soundtrack and unforgettable characters.
9 to 5: The Musical marked the Broadway debut of seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Dolly Parton, who worked as both composer and lyricist.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on my first Broadway show,” said Dolly Parton. “I’ve had the privilege of working with an amazing group of people who have become like family to me. I can’t wait for this show to hit the road so people across the country can see why I’m so proud of everyone involved.”
