Haute Dining: North 26 Restaurant and Bar

We’re smack-dab in the middle of Restaurant Week(s) here in Boston, where the area’s best chefs are trotting out their famous food to accolade-laden reviews and trumpeted fanfare. Okay, maybe there’s not actually a brass section escorting the foie gras from kitchen to table at your favorite eatery, but if any fine dining establishment deserves musical accompaniment, it’s North 26 Restaurant and Bar (26 North Street, Boston, 617.557.3640).

Located in the swanky Millennium Hotel, a mere stone’s throw from historic Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, Boston’s newest progressive American restaurant boasts an innovative menu that features regional ingredients from local vendors for a true New England dining experience.

Seated in the sophisticated, dark-wood dining space, diners can enjoy a steaming bowl of New England shellfish stew – a tender, area-appropriate medley of lobster, clams, mussels, scallops, and the like, bathed in a saffron tomato broth – with a glass of Taittinger “La Francaise” Brut, or share a platter on sumptuous short rib crepes while discussing Boston’s superior starting rotation to their Bronx Bomber counterpart.

As the winter chill gives way to a more comfortable temperature, patrons can carry their conversations and signature cocktails (like North’s cucumber martinis) over onto the restaurant’s seasonal patio. And on the off-chance that the dinner dialogue grows stale, they can step back inside and freshen up their Maker’s Mark at North’s interactive bar, where a friendly staff of cocktail connoisseurs awaits.
