53rd Annual Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market

Native Arizonan Derrick Suwaima Davis of the Hopi and Choctaw Nations -- a favorite peformer at the Indian Fair.

If you have an appreciation for American Indian art, we know exactly what’s on your agenda this weekend. Every year more than 20,000 visitors and 700-plus American Indian artists are drawn to the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, taking place this year March 5-6.

One of Arizona’s most widely known and culturally significant events, the fair features captivating American Indian music and entertainment, with dances and other performances held in the museum’s outdoor amphitheater both days. Take in all the festivities while nibbling on some favorite traditional dishes, such as fry bread, posole stew, piki bread and Hopi stew served alongside several Mexican and American treats as well.

And after you’ve fueled up, it will be time to do some shopping at the market. Between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both days, you can peruse more than 700 vendors’ booths showcasing everything from jewelry and textiles to sculpture and pottery, carvings and more. Pause to observe some of the chef and artist demonstrations that will be occurring throughout the market, or experience the new desert peoples lifeways exhibition to learn more about the four O’odham tribes of Arizona and Northern Mexico and the Pee Posh (Maricopa).

Admission to the Indian Fair & Market includes access to the Heard Museum’s 10 exhibit galleries at no further cost, so if you’ve never before been to the museum, or if it’s been a while since your last visit, this is the perfect occasion to stop by and explore. Besides, haven’t you been looking for a year now for a pretty pottery piece to put in that empty corner of your house? Problem solved.

Admission to the Fair & Market is $15 per adult or $24 for a two-day pass. Tickets are now only available at the gate. Heard Museum members have the chance to preview all the goods before the crowds arrive, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5. Visit this page for more information regarding tickets.

Contact the museum or check online for full event details.

Heard Museum is located at 2301 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix 602.252.8848
