Ice was a recurring theme at Elise Øverland’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection presented last Saturday, Feb. 12. Stepping aside from the routine pattern of a traditional runway show, the presentation, which was located at The Standard, New York Ice Rink in the historic Meatpacking District, featured a performance by three-time U.S. National Figure Skating Champion Johnny Weir and an ice sculpture that was carved under the artistic direction of The Art Production Fund throughout the show. The collection was shown on a combination of models, who stood in stationary positions scattered throughout the ice rink, and professional ice skaters from the Ice Theatre of New York who weaved their way around the models gracefully on their skates.

The collection itself continued with the icy theme, as the cool blues, pale greens, and light lavenders popped against black tights and metallic accents. The fabrics were appropriately suitable for the venue, as heavy and structured tops and dresses were paired with soft leather jackets and skirts and luxurious fur coats and vests. As guests gazed on at the winter wonderland of fashion, they enjoyed warm cocktails courtesy of Belvedere Vodka that were specially created by Øverland herself with the help of Belvedere Ambassador Mixologist Ali Dedianko.

Elyse Øverland was born in Norway and studied fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She began designing rock n’ roll stage pieces at the start of her career, with some legendary clients such as Steven Tyler from Aerosmith before switching over to women’s ready-to-wear in 2006.
