Haute Fashion: Intermix to Carve Out a Space in the Meatpacking District

They’re well-dressed, handsome, heterosexual and have quite a piece of the nation’s luxury retail sector. In New York in particular, Haro and Khajak Keledjian have a strong-hold on the fashion forefront with their chain of Intermix boutiques; with 5 stores in the 23-square-mile Manhattan spread, an Intermix shopping bag can more often than not be spotted slung across the shoulders of this city’s most discerning fashionistas. How does one forgo a little retail therapy upon eyeing that grey banner so luringly blowing in the breeze? The call of the retail gods does not go straight to voice mail.

And although the old adage posits two’s company and three’s crowd, to the fraternal duo behind “the mix,” apparently six is just right. Stores that is. Coming this August, Intermix Meatpacking will open its doors on the corner of Washington and Gansevoort, steps from the city’s highline. This Horatio Street “haute” spot will serve as the New York woman’s new retail go-to, with a vendor line-up from DSquared2 to DVF and Rag & Bone to Rodarte. Whether in need of an outfit for that Abe and Arthur’s dinner date or that lunch meeting at The Standard, the store will remedy all fashion exigencies.

The sixth Manhattan Intermix will be home to more than just designer duds however. In a slight departure from the current 23 boutiques, it will be an open, 2,500-square-foot space with 20-foot lofted ceilings and sufficient gallery space. The objective is to fuse fashion and art; of note will be more than just what hangs on the hangers- they hope to also host art exhibitions and musical performances.

So should you happen to break that Atwood heel on the cobblestones that are 14th street, don’t fret. Just turn the corner and look up for that beloved grey banner–it will serve as your north star to guide you home.
