It’s no secret that many downtown New York hotspots start sizzling before they even open. Fitting the bill is the new boîte Mr. H, located inside at the un-opened Mondrian SoHo. Kicking off the craze with an illustrious and unruly bash was designer Prabal Gurung, who fêted his autumn/winter 2011/12 collection on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Mr. H. Then, following the Alexander Wang store opening in SoHo, V Man magazine hosted a star-studded after party taking the hotel by storm and drawing the likes of: Kanye West, Keri Hilson, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Chloë Sevigny, Genevieve Jones, Vera Wang, dance duo Chromeo, Sean Lennon, Zoe Kravitz, Kris van Assche, Leigh Lezark and model Irina Lazareanu— to name a few.

Inside the chaos, t-shirt clad models sashayed with heart-shaped donation containers, collecting contributions for Gods Love We Deliver. Guests in the hotel’s Garden Room sipped Belvedere cocktails and Moët & Chandon, while moving to the beats of Lady Bunny. At one point, after V Man cover boy, Kanye West had made a late entry; golden drink tickets, fake Kanye and real dollar bills rained onto party-goers to Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” (remixed by A-Trak).

With a soft opening like this, expect much more splendor: The deluxe Mondrian SoHo will mark Morgans Hotel Group’s third of its kind (after Mondrian LA and Miami) and the company’s first downtown New York hotel. With boutique hotel-wunderkind, Benjamin Noriega Ortiz on board, imagine clustered crystal chandeliers, dramatic earthen tones, sweeping contemporary angles, polished furnishings and 270 dreamy rooms (including a 1,170 square-foot penthouse on the 25th floor, with breathtaking views of the city). Famed chef, Sam Talbot will be opening a sustainable seafood resto positioned adjacent to the lobby (seating or 150). The eatery, to be named Imperial No. Nine, has already created plenty of buzz… Keep watch for the hotel’s lavish opening soon.
