More than 800 Valley society members turned out for the 2011 Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation Honor Ball this month. Held in The Phoenician Resort Grand Ballroom, the event celebrated its 35th year and benefited the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare.

Each year the Honor Ball recognizes an individual, couple or group who made a vital impact on Scottsdale Healthcare. On Feb. 5, Ed and Natalie Gaylord were celebrated as the 2011 Honorees for their dedicated community service, philanthropy and support of Scottsdale Healthcare, including the new Gaylord Family Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center. Ed also serves on the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees and is a chair of the Scottsdale Healthcare Community Cancer Advisory Committee.

The ballroom was decorated in jade green and coral for the occasion, and guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner before taking to the dance floor to the tunes of the Jacqueline Foster Orchestra. Additional VIPs in attendance included former Vice President Dan Quayle, Congressman David Schweikert, Congressman Ben Quayle, State Representative Eric Meyer, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and Barrett-Jackson Auction CEO Craig Jackson.

The black tie event has raised more than $9 million to support patient and community services at Scottsdale Healthcare. And opened in 2001, the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare was the city’s first major cancer center offering comprehensive cancer treatment, research, diagnosis, prevention and support services in a single location.
