Haute Event: City Bakery Hosts Haute Chocolate for a Cure
by Francesca Borgognone
Last Thursday, The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Junior Board Committee hosted an evening of hot chocolate, cocktails, dinner, and that -oh-so-famous mac’ and cheese at City Bakery.
The event was created in efforts to push public awareness about the symptoms and struggles that over 21,000 American women face each year. The five-year survival rate has increased by a measly eight percent in the past thirty years and that needs to change.
During her welcoming speech, board member Alyssa Barrie stressed the importance of making a change and the idea of a youthful turnout is the sign of good things to come. The Junior Board’s efforts are specifically zoned on raising awareness of young members in the community and they did just that. With a full house, fantastic ticket sales, and plenty of hot chocolate going around, the event managed to successfully raise $49,000.

A sizable silent auction during the evening was most definitely a part of that number. Brunch at Lincoln Restaurant, dinner at Marea, vintage jewelry, and a super haute fur vest are just a few of the items that were up for bidding and these guests weren’t shy for a cause.
The mission of OCRF is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. OCRF helps patients and their loved ones understand the disease and its treatment and provide outreach programs, like this one, to help raise public knowledge.
